Our Butler Pantry & Utility Room: A Real-Time Walkthrough
Earlier this year, I shared a sped-up video of our butler’s pantry and utility room, and let’s just say… Facebook had some thoughts. The general consensus? It was way too fast! So today, I’m giving you a real-time walkthrough of these two spaces, breaking down how we designed them to work for our family.
Designed for Function and Flow
Since this is a custom home, we were very intentional about creating a layout that makes daily life easier. Our kitchen is the heart of our home, and we actually use it—so having a butler’s pantry and a well-equipped utility room nearby has been a game-changer.
One common misconception? That we have washers and dryers tucked away in some hidden second kitchen. Nope! What you’re seeing in the video is a utility room and our butler pantry, not a second kitchen. Here’s what each includes:
Utility Room
A sink for washing hands and soaking laundry
A refrigerator for extra cold storage
Plenty of storage for all those household essentials
A double set of washer and dryer towers
Mud lockers for the kids backpacks and sports bags
Lots of counter space for folding
Butler Pantry
A beverage refrigerator
Floor to ceiling storehouse shelving for pantry items and small kitchen appliance storage
A custom white oak wine rack + glass storage
A bar sink with reverse osmosis
A built-in pebble ice maker
A coffee bar
What you won’t find here? Large cooking appliances. This space isn’t meant for food prep—it’s all about function and organization.
Storage That Works for Us
One of my favorite things about this space is the sheer amount of thoughtful storage. From built-in cabinets that we took all the way to the 12’ ceiling to smart shelving, everything has a place. Whether it’s overflow pantry items, cleaning supplies, kids craft supplies, board games, holiday decor, or those bulky kitchen appliances I don’t use every day, this setup keeps our main kitchen clutter-free while still being easily accessible.
Want the Plans?
While I don’t share our full house plans, this is one space I’m always happy to make available. If you’d like to see the layout,
I’d love to hear what you think! Do you have a butler’s pantry or a dedicated utility room in your home? How do you use the space? Let’s chat in the comments!
